If you haven’t checked out Leopard’s default ‘Alex’ voice yet, you should immediately stop whatever you’re doing, and check it out. This is the first time that I’ve encountered a tts engine that is (IMHO) actually useful. This is an attempt to bring some of that Mac goodness to the rest of us by exporting the tts as a web service. The experiment is hosted on the Digital Government website at Virginia Tech.

Unfortunately, at our labs, we haven’t upgraded yet to Leopard server, so you’ll only get the older 10.4 female default voice. Also, this is a way, way alpha thing. So there’ll be a lot of debug statements being thrown around. You’ve been warned.

Launch It!
